The Elders Scroll IV: Oblivion

Oblivion is an excellent single player fantasy RPG with the main quest being to save Tamriel from being taken over by demons. There are many quests besides the main quest. The player is provided freedom on how they develop their character and which quests to pursue. You can join any of the main fractions that provide you the chance to become the leader of each by completing a series of quests. There are also other groups that you might become a part of such as a vampire.

Oblivion's builtin support for adding mods has made this RPG very replayable. Bethesda sells official mods that add quests, buildings, NPC, and more. The free Oblivion mod building kit has resulted in thousands of free mods that you can add to the game. As a result better graphics, environment, user interface, and sounds are available. With more NPC's, quests, buildings, locations, houses, equipment, and character capabilities are available. These mods made a great game even better.   • Planet Elder Scroll from gamespy 
    Note: Second best download site for Oblivion Mods. Some Oblivion files are only hosted on this site.
  • Baldurdash - Has unofficial patches, in game encylopedia mod, and roleplaying mod.
  • MODDB - Mod files for various games. The link provided is for Oblivion mods.

The entire guides is available as webpages or can be downloaded as a PDF file. The free to download 296 page Oblivion game guide covers the entire game and all official add ons.

Performance Guides

  • Enhancing Oblivion Performance with Mods, Limiting CTD's, corrupted saves and more  by Shadowcran (Forum Registration Required)  that provides and list mods to improve perfomance and game stablity.
  • Oblivion includes a readme.txt file file that is stuff with suggestions on adjusting game settings to improve performance. and how they will affect the game. This file is included in the Oblivion installation. It's default location is C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion.
    Note: Print the Performance Tuning section and keep it handy.
